For more than 60 years, churches have used Awana to lead kids to know, love and serve Christ through long-term discipleship. Every week, over 2.3 million preschool to high school kids in over 100 countries find God’s purpose for their lives through the fun, relational, Scripture-filled learning experiences and activities. First Baptist is one of the 30,000 churches worldwide who utilize the expertise and resources of Awana to raise up generations of disciple-making disciples. The mission prayer of Awana is “To REACH

boys and girls with the Gospel of Christ, and train them to KNOW, LOVE, and SERVE HIM for life.” This mission encompasses EVANGELISM and DISCIPLESHIP. Missions are also a very important focus and are woven into the entire curriculum.

In August 2016, we began the 28th year of ministry at FBC! Over the years, countless children have made decisions for Christ as a result of their being discipled in Awana. Also, many family members have made decisions for Christ as a result of their child’s participation. Eleven graduating high school seniors have earned the Citation Award, Awana’s highest accomplishment, and several have been offered college scholarships by Christian colleges, who recognize the value and volume of the work involved in earning the award. Every week, children and teens are having a great time as they learn about God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit! They are developing a Biblical Worldview, discovering God’s purpose for their lives, and learning to live for and serve Him. Adults and teens who feel called to serve in Awana are discovering a deeper passion for Jesus and for reaching kids.

Curriculum & Ministry Plan

Through the curriculum and ministry plan for each of the age groups (clubs), Awana endeavors to help us raise “Modern-Day Josephs”, young men and women who know God, love God, and serve Him well throughout their lives. Awana does this by incorporating 5 Master Life Threads, represented in the life of Old Testament Joseph.
Puggles: for children, 2 years old (by September 1, 2016)
Master Life Thread: Respect
The preschool years are the time to build the foundations of a child’s faith, so the Puggles curriculum introduces our little ones to the how’s and whys of respecting God. Each lesson teaches respect for the awesomeness and authority of God, such as “God is the Creator”, “God is Holy”, “God is Love”, and much more.
Cubbies: for preschool children, 3-5 years old (3 by September 1, 2015)
Master Life Thread: Respect
The Cubbies curriculum is designed to continue building the foundations of a child’s faith. Many children in this age are beginning to learn to read, so they are now memorizing scripture and learning more about the awesomeness and authority of God.
Sparks: for early elementary children, K5-2nd grade
Master Life Thread: Through the Sparks curriculum, the clubbers begin to comprehend the magnificence of who God is, and that the Bible is God’s living Word. Sparkies want to know the what, why, and how of Bible events.
Truth and Training: for older elementary children, 3rd-6th grades
Master Life Thread: Children in this age group face the world with a newfound independence. Helping children understand and respond to God’s priceless gift of grace will enable them to grow into adults who reflect Christ in their actions and relationships with others, demonstrating mercy and grace.
